The Light of the World

Jesus is the only true Light of the World, and his light shines all the brighter amidst the darkness that tyrannizes the present age. All competing claims are false.

โ€œLifeโ€ is found in the โ€œWordโ€ or โ€˜Logosโ€™ (ฮปฮฟฮณฮฟฯ‚), and this life is the โ€œLight of men.โ€ The Light is โ€œshining in the darkness,โ€ and the darkness โ€œcannot seizeโ€ or suppress it. This same โ€œWordโ€ has become the Living Word of God in Jesus of Nazareth, in whom the glory, salvation, and life of God are manifested for all men to see – (John 1:1).

Seeing God’s Glory

Since the Word became flesh, the Divine Glory has been manifested in Jesus of Nazareth and all who follow him behold it โ€“ John 1:14.

Jesus is the Logos in the Gospel of John, the โ€œWord become fleshโ€ in whom the โ€œGlory of Godโ€ resides. He is the True Tabernacle foreshadowed by the Tent carried by Israel in the wilderness where the Glory of Yahweh was manifested in impressive but limited ways. The Crucified Messiah is the true and full manifestation of the Glory of the Living God.

Beasts in the Church

The term โ€œantichristโ€ occurs only in the second and third letters of John, and he applies the plural noun to deceivers that are causing dissension in his congregations. Their very presence constitutes irrefutable evidence that the โ€œlast daysโ€ have commenced. These troublemakers are โ€œantichristsโ€ and forerunners of the โ€œAntichristโ€ who is to come.

The Antichrist Spirit

In popular interpretations, the Antichrist is a political tyrant intent on world domination. Whether this proves true, Jesus and his apostles expressed more concern about the deceivers who ply their trade in the church. And in passages that refer to the Antichrist, the issue is deceivers who infiltrate the church.

The only New Testament author to employ the term โ€œantichristโ€ is John in his first two letters. In them, he warns that โ€œit is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come.โ€

ANTICHRIST – FINAL INCARNATION

The โ€œspirit of antichristโ€ is raising up deceivers within the church, though a final โ€œantichristโ€ will also appear at the end of the age.

The only New Testament author who uses the term โ€œantichristโ€ is John, and only in two of his letters. He applied it to โ€œfalse prophetsโ€ who were active in his congregations, false brethren he charged with denying that โ€œJesus is the Christโ€ and had โ€œcome in the flesh.โ€ Such men were of the โ€œspirit of antichristโ€ that already was operating in the world in Johnโ€™s day.
