Christus Rex

The New Testament applies messianic promises from the Psalms to the present reign of Jesus. He is CHRIST THE KING!

Since his Death, Resurrection, and Ascension, Jesus has reigned as absolute sovereign over the Earth, indeed, over the Cosmos. He is seated on the Messianic Throne of David and rules from โ€œMount Zionโ€ as promised. Because of his โ€œobedience until death,โ€ Christ is the โ€œRuler of the Kings of the Earth.โ€ Before his Ascension, he declared, โ€œI have all authority in Heaven and on Earth.โ€ His present sovereignty is limitless.

ARMAGEDDON

The several wars in Revelation all present the same final assault by Satan against the saints of the Lamb.

We often read the visions of Revelation as if they are presented in chronological sequence, an assumption that creates difficulties when interpreting the several battle scenes depicted in chapters 11, 12, 13, 16, 19, and 20. Do they portray different โ€œfinal battlesโ€ that occur at different times, or is the same war presented from different perspectives?

THE GREAT FALLING AWAY

The New Testament warns of the coming โ€œapostasyโ€ that will occur prior to the arrival of the โ€œday of the Lord.โ€

To the Thessalonians, Paul explained that the โ€œday of the Lordโ€ will NOT commence until the โ€œapostasyโ€ occurs and the โ€œman of lawlessnessโ€ is revealed, two events that are inextricably linked. And in his statement, Paul reiterated the warning found elsewhere in the New Testament about the โ€œfalling awayโ€ of many from the faith in the โ€œlast days.โ€

THE FAITHFUL WITNESS

In the salutation to the seven churches, Jesus is identified as the โ€œFaithful Witnessโ€ because of his self-sacrificial death โ€“ Revelation 1:5.

The vision of John begins with salutations to the churches of Asia, first from God, then from the โ€œseven spirits,โ€ and finally, from Jesus, the โ€œfaithful witness.โ€ The Son of God bore โ€œwitnessโ€ in his death, which becomes the pattern that the โ€œseven churchesโ€ are summoned to emulate as they give โ€œtestimonyโ€ even while enduring persecution โ€œfor the word of God.โ€

The Last Days in the Book of Hebrews

Interpretations often go awry when they ignore or misunderstand New Testament statements about the โ€œthe last days.โ€ย  This involves not just end time prophecy but other key topics; for example, the gift of the Spirit and its significance in the redemptive plan of God. When we hear โ€œlast daysโ€ we assume it is a reference to a final short period of history just before Jesus returns. But the New Testament presents the โ€œlast daysโ€ as an ear of fulfillment that began with the death, resurrection, and exaltation of Jesus. Continue reading “The Last Days in the Book of Hebrews”
