IN THE TEMPLE

Jesus gave his final discourse following his final departure from the Templeย โ€“ย Mark 12:41-13:4.

The โ€˜Olivet Discourseโ€™ is the last recorded block of Christโ€™s teachings given on the Mount of Olives following a series of confrontations between him and the Temple authorities, and his final departure from the Temple itself. And his conflicts with the religious leaders set the stage for his trial and execution at the hands of the Roman governor.

BEGINNING OF THE GOSPEL

In the ministry of Jesus, the kingdom of God arrived, beginning with his baptism by John the Baptist โ€“ Mark 1:1-3.

The gospel of Mark begins with a straightforward declaration derived from the Hebrew Bible that provides the scriptural link to the ministry of John the Baptist and sets the stage for the commencement of Christโ€™s messianic mission. In this way, Mark opens on a distinct note of fulfillment. Jesus is the promised Messiah of Israel.
