At the close of his visions, an angel commanded Daniel โto close the words and seal the book until the season of the end.โ In contrast, in Revelation, the โscrollโ is unsealed, revealing its contents for all to see. Daniel was told to โseal the scroll,โ but John is commanded NOT to do so. The verbal parallels are deliberate and telling.

The End of the Indignation
In chapter 7, the timeframe during which the โlittle hornโ is authorized to wage war โagainst the saintsโ is described as a โtime, times, and part of a time.โ At the end of the period, this malevolent ruler will lose his domain. In chapter 8, the angel Gabriel describes it as โthe END OF THE INDIGNATION, for at the appointed time will be an end.โ However horrific the โdesolationโ might be, it will not last forever.

Danielโs final vision concludes with the description of a period of intense โtribulationโ that is about to befall the Jewish nation, one more severe than any preceding trial in its history. There are no chapter divisions in the original document, and contextually, chapter 12 is the continuation of the vision of chapters 10 and 11.

Previously, the rise and division of the Greek empire were portrayed in the vision of the โRamโ and of the โGoat,โ representing the realms of the โMedes and Persiansโ and โGreece,โ respectively.
