Over the decades, I have heard credible men of God warn of a coming day when the Church will experience a “famine for the word of God.” At first, I took this to refer to a time when the Bible would be suppressed even in Western-style democracies as governmental authorities sought to persecute the true faith.

The Book of Revelation itself provides several interpretations of its images. For example, it states that the “Seven Golden Lampstands” represent seven congregations. Likewise, the “Seven Stars” held by the “one like a Son of Man” symbolize angels or “Seven Messengers.” Pictures of the smoke of “incense” rising to heaven represent the “prayers of the saints.” And so on.

Believers prepare for the “apostasy” and the “man of lawlessness” by “standing firm” in the Apostolic traditions – 2 Thessalonians 2:13-17.
Having presented the information on the “apostasy” and the “man of lawlessness,” Paul provides instructions on how the Thessalonians are to avoid the coming deception, and thereby, find themselves standing “blameless” before Jesus when he “arrives with all his holy ones.” Above all, they must “stand fast” in the teachings received from the Apostle.
