The period when the saints endure persecution is presented in three different but equivalent forms – “forty-two months,” “1,260 days,” and the “season, seasons, and half a season.” These variations do not point to three separate periods. Instead, they link several visions that describe specific aspects of the persecution that takes place during this period.

Time, Times, and Half a Time
In the interpretation of his vision, Daniel receives the limits for the time allotted to the “little horn” – “Time, times, and part of a time.” After this, he loses his domain. The description is ambiguous but becomes clear in Daniel’s subsequent visions. And Revelation uses this cipher for the “short season” during which the “Dragon” is authorized to persecute the “saints.”

The Devil will be granted a final short season to persecute the saints before the end of the age – Revelation 12:12.
When Satan is expelled from heaven, a “great voice” warns that the “Dragon” is enraged since he has only a “short season” remaining to inflict harm on the followers of Jesus. He attempts to vent his rage by persecuting the “woman” who produced the messianic “son,” but he is thwarted from doing so. Consequently, he launches his “war” against her “seed.”
