PROMISED SPIRIT – NEW COVENANT

SYNOPSIS – The Church and the gift of the Spirit have been integral to the redemptive plan of God from the very beginning

In his letter to the Galatians, the Apostle Paul links the “promise of the Spirit” to the “blessing of Abraham.” The Law pronounced a curse on anyone who did “not continue in all things written” in it, therefore, Jesus came under its curse to redeem men and women from it, that “the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith” – (Genesis 12:2-3, Galatians 3:10-14).

LAND PROMISE AND NEW CREATION

In Jesus, the original and limited land promise to Abraham now encompasses the entire “cosmos.”

Foundational to the biblical idea of redemption is the promise to Abraham of a land inheritance for his offspring. Though originally confined to the small territory of Canaan, implicit in the covenant promise was a future fulfillment that would encompass all nations and the entire earth, if not the whole Cosmos – (“So shall be blessed in you all the families of the earth”).

HEIR OF THE WORLD

According to Paul, the land promised to Abraham envisioned the inclusion of the entire world Romans 4:13.

God began to redeem humanity with His covenant with Abraham, beginning with the summons for him to leave his homeland for the “land that I will show you.” Yahweh would make him into a “great nation,” and in the Patriarch, He would “bless all the clans of the earth.” And from the start, the land promise was central to the covenant.
